Best Buy has issued a recall for approximately 930,000 Insignia pressure cookers following several reports of burn injuries caused by the expulsion of hot food and liquids under pressure. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Thursday that three models of the Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cooker are affected by this recall due to a burn safety hazard.
Insignia, a brand owned by Best Buy, is known for its range of appliances. The pressure cookers in question have been found to have incorrect volume markings on the inner pot, which can lead to overfilling. Consequently, when the pressure cooker is vented using its quick release method or opened while pressurized, there is a risk of hot contents being forcefully ejected.
According to the CPSC, Best Buy has already received 31 reports of incidents involving the expulsion of contents under pressure. Out of these, 17 incidents resulted in burn injuries, including cases of second-degree and severe burns.
The affected pressure cookers were sold online on Best Buy's website and on Amazon.com between October 2017 and June 2023. If you own one of these pressure cookers, it is crucial to stop using it immediately and return it for a replacement.
