LEWISTON, Maine - Maine State Police have issued a shelter-in-place order for residents in Lewiston, the state's second-largest city, due to an active-shooter situation unfolding at multiple locations.
Lewiston Police disclosed on Facebook that they are currently addressing an active-shooter incident at Schemengees Bar and Grille as well as Sparetime Recreation, a popular bowling alley.
Central Maine Medical Center's website has confirmed their involvement, stating that their staff is actively responding to a mass casualty, mass shooter event. They are also coordinating efforts with neighboring hospitals to accommodate incoming patients.
Shortly after 8 p.m., an alert was issued for residents of Lewiston by the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office. According to the office, law enforcement agencies are investigating two separate active shooter incidents. The suspect(s) involved remains at large.
In light of these developments, the sheriff's office is advising all businesses to implement lockdown measures or temporarily close until the investigation has concluded.
The Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson has emphasized the importance of residents remaining inside their homes and keeping their doors securely locked.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office has shared two images on their Facebook page, capturing a suspect who can be seen entering an establishment, armed with a raised weapon.
